Stepping into the customer site of a magnetite mine in Inner Mongolia, the plant layout is well-organized, with fully enclosed material conveying corridors free of significant dust. Efficient operation across the entire process can be achieved with just 35 employees. The site is laid out in a stepped manner: “crushing → grinding → magnetic separation → dewatering,” following the principle of gravity conveying to minimize energy consumption, resulting in a clear and orderly production line.
The main magnetic separation workshop is the core area. Four permanent magnet drum separators are neatly arranged and operating at high speed. The slurry flows slowly through the magnetic drums, where strongly magnetic iron ore particles are firmly attracted by the magnetic field and fall off as the drums rotate. Non-magnetic gangue flows out with the slurry as tailings. The separation process is intuitive and efficient. The workshop adopts a “one-coarse, two-fine, three-sweep” process, eliminating the need for added reagents, making it both green and economical.
In the central control room, staff monitor equipment parameters, slurry concentration, and concentrate grade in real time through the DCS system, achieving minimally staffed control. On-site inspectors check the surface of the magnetic drum every two hours, cleaning away accumulated ore and magnetic clumps to ensure a uniform magnetic field. They also monitor bearing temperature to ensure stable equipment operation.
In the dewatering area, the thickener and ceramic filter work together to dewater the magnetically separated concentrate slurry to below 8% moisture content. The dewatered concentrate is a loose, black powder, which is conveyed to the stockpile for off-site transport via belt conveyor. According to the on-site manager, the site processes 2,000 tons of raw ore daily, with a concentrate grade consistently above 66% and a recovery rate of 88%. The products are widely recognized by surrounding steel companies.
The entire site balances high efficiency and environmental protection. Water recycling rate exceeds 85%, tailings are treated and stored in a standardized manner, and dust and noise control meet industry standards, truly demonstrating the practical application effectiveness and on-site operational status of the iron ore magnetic separation equipment.
