Product Introduction

A hydrocyclone is a device that uses centrifugal sedimentation to classify, deslim, and concentrate minerals. It mainly consists of a cylinder, a cone, a feed pipe, an overflow pipe, and a settling port. The slurry enters the hydrocyclone cylinder tangentially under pressure, generating high-speed rotation. Under centrifugal force, coarse and heavy particles are thrown against the wall and move downwards along a spiral trajectory, exiting through the settling port; fine and light particles move upwards with the inner spiral flow and are discharged through the overflow pipe.

Compared to spiral classifiers, hydrocyclones offer advantages such as higher classification efficiency, larger processing capacity, smaller footprint, and no moving parts. In the fine grinding section, hydrocyclones are generally integrated with ball mills in a closed-loop system, resulting in significantly higher classification efficiency than spiral classifiers. This is one of the gaps between Chinese concentrators and international advanced levels—foreign countries commonly use hydrocyclones in closed-loop systems with ball mills, while in China, hydrocyclones are only widely used in the fine grinding section for classification.

The particle size classification of hydrocyclones is mainly affected by factors such as hydrocyclone diameter, feed pressure, overflow pipe diameter, and underflow inlet diameter. Small hydrocyclones with diameters of 10-50 mm can be used for fine particle classification; large hydrocyclones with diameters exceeding 500 mm are used for coarse particle classification or concentration operations. Correctly selecting hydrocyclone specifications and operating parameters is crucial for improving classification efficiency and grinding cycle efficiency.
